Hoop Diaries with Jeremy Fitch

With the NBA season now in full swing and the trade deadline approaching, now is the opportune time to see which teams need to improve their roster as they make their way towards a playoff berth. I’ll be covering three teams which were sent in through our followers.
Boston Celtics- They are definitely a more complete teams in multiple ways, their ability to move the basketball, their rebounding and defense has been some of the more impressive ways they have improved with. However, the only question mark on their current roster make-up is how are they going to score the ball come playoff time? With an undersized guard in Isaiah Thomas who is their leading scorer, the Celtics need an alternative scorer as soon as possible! That being said, I believe the perfect fit would be Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets. While the Nuggets are a team that have gone backwards in recent years, picking up a few young studs and a 1st round draft pick from the C’s wouldn’t be a bad idea. However, any scorer that the Celtics can grab this season is a good thing for Celtic fans.
Cleveland Cavaliers - After their debacle against the Golden State Warriors it has become ever more evident that they cannot rely solely on LeBron James as their offensive and defensive leader. That being said, someone that can help pick up the slack for the Cavaliers on defense would be Serge Ibaka, but getting him into a Cavalier jersey is something completely different. Realistically, I think if the Cavaliers could get Thabo Sefalosha from the Toronto Raptors, he would give their defense a real kick off of the bench.
New Orleans Pelicans- If the Pelicans can somehow rebound from their uncharacteristically slow start this year and make that the playoffs that would be unbelievable! However, I think it would be in their best interest to go after another point guard and re-tool their roster through trades, with the intention of creating more cap space for this upcoming offseason to chase Kevin Durant and get him to play with Anthony Davis. Realistically that will not happen, but that would be a great combo to have. Ultimately, the Pelicans have reportedly been going after small forward Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings. If the Pelicans are able to strike a deal with the Kings it would be interesting to see if they could make a run at a point guard such as Derrick Rose who has been reported to be subject to being traded by the Bulls. This would be an interesting turn of events for the league especially if the Pelicans were able to get two players of such a high caliber in addition to Anthony Davis.
Ultimately, time will tell which teams are willing to go all in, or stay back and prepare for the offseason to regroup and strengthen their organizations. As the weeks go on we look forward to the trade rumors as well as potential team management shifting that will take place. Keep an eye out for articles on the latest trade rumors and roster moves in the coming weeks.
